About us

Guiding Light Career Centre is a registered Public Benefit Organisation (930036771) which was founded in August 2009.

Mission:

• Offer clear, concise and comprehensive career-related information in order to help students make better and informed career choices.
• We offer career guidance workshops to students in secondary schools. Although currently limited to the Johannesburg area, our hope is to grow our offering to reach all South African provinces.

Vision:

Career choices made easy!

Values:

Passion; Integrity; Reliability; Professionalism

The History:

While working as Project and Human Resources Coordinator, the founder of Guiding Light, Nosipho Sithole, had the pleasure of hosting 20 girl students for the Cell C “Take a Girl Child to work” day. She became a little disillusioned when she realised how little information the girls had about the subject choices needed to pursue their career goals, about the entrance requirements at universities and colleges, about available financial assistance, etc.

Having made some dodgy career choices herself, she could easily identify with the students and decided to act to change the situation. Guiding Light Career Centre was born.
The idea is to make the information provided as comprehensive and integrated as possible. This is done by profiling professionals in different industries, incorporating information about available bursaries, learnerships, graduate programmes, student loans and any events that might be useful to students e.g. university / college open days. The information is made available on our website but school workshops are conducted in order to ensure that the information does reach its intended market.
